that's our hero shot
i've learned this weekend that my mom likes my impression of celine dion. it basically involves me singing one line from "my heart will go on" and repeatedly hitting my chest hard as i hit a high note. yeah...it made my mom laugh.
anyhow, i've been a bit disappointed lately by not having any new music to listen to. there was a period of a couple of years where i always had something new to listen to every other week. it was awesome. sure...a bunch of this "new music" i had could never be mistaken for "happy music". but it was still music. more importantly, it was good music. lyrics that made me think. lyrics that were so clever you had to like the entire song. lyrics that made me cry, over and over again. it was glorious i tell you. it's just if you looked hard enough they'll be some new band to listen to. but it's slowed down a bit. i don't know why. maybe i'm getting older and my music taste is changing. i could be getting pickier. or maybe i oversaturated (is that a word?) my music library and i just acquired way too much music. like i acquired too much stuff that, upon a quick listen, sounded a bit too redundant. that i never allowed myself enough time to really get into it. you know, just feel the music. as a result, a few of the new bands i've gotten into were mostly bands i listened to that were undercards on concerts that have impressed me live. sherwood comes to mind. nothing mindblowing, but they were good live. happy music. other cds i've dug were bands i just plain dig and continue to follow. moneen. saves the day. their albums came out about a year ago. awesome stuff. then there were a few cds i got lead to by reading some "best of 2006" lists. regina spektor. kooky but good. rocky votolato. that indie, midwest-like sound that i've been straying towards. probably every two months i'll have a period where i'll pick up a few cds to listen to. things have definitely changed. now that i think about it, it might be that i don't have tower records to go cd hunting at. boo i say. so what is the point of this diatribe? actually...is this a diatribe? anyhow, a bunch of cds are coming out this month that i'm quite excited about. the aforementioned sherwood has a new album out today. daphne loves derby has a new album out at the end of the month. but because i'm a fanboy, i preordered it and, as a bonus, was able to download a digital copy of the new album today. then, just right, i got curious about this one band i dig, the snakes the cross the crowns, and how they never update their webpage. well i look at it and their new album is out in a week. good music month. it makes me happy. and it inspires entries from me that lack form and barely functions as coherent. i love it. kill flanders.
